The ethical spine
The Nine Harmonies
Nine commitments, not nine commandments. They are not ranked, and they will sometimes contradict one another. Learning to hold that tension without collapsing it into a rule is most of the work.
- Truth Keep confidence proportionate to reasons, including when an error serves a good cause.
- Compassion Notice whose life disappears from an account of success.
- Agency Make refusal and appeal real, not merely available in a document.
- Creation Responsibility does not end where direct control ends.
- Power Ask who holds custody and who can overrule them.
- Privacy Technical access does not create an invitation.
- Living World Keep the place and the people inside the account of what a system costs.
- Plural Minds A difference in ability is not a rank of lives.
- Becoming Keep the means of correction available when being corrected becomes expensive.
